The dealer plugged the fuel line directly into the main fuel tank with a "Y" and all I have to do to use it is press a button to lower it into the water and press a button to start it. I have narrowed my kicker choices down to Tohatsu 8 or 9.8 HP or Suzuki 6 or 9.9 HP. I want to add a 4 stroke outboard kicker for trolling with downriggers. I replaced it with a 9.9 4-stroke Suziki electric start, power tilt. I recently purchased a 2002 Lund 1700 Fisherman for use on inland reservoirs (some pretty big, but not like the Great Lakes or ocean). The camp did not survive but the boat did. Katrina ate my kicker becasue I stored it in my camp. Since the detachable turner is typically on the port side of the engine, most kickers are mounted on the starboard-side of the transom to work with simpler turner directing and choke control while slow-savaging or putting home. The kicker motor mounts on a bracket on the transom, usually to the left side of the main outboard motor or transom mounted sailboat. A sterndrive, also known as an inboard/outboard or I/O, uses a marine-adapted automotive engine mounted inside the hull near the transom. With the help of a kicker motor, you can go as low as 1MPH without a hitch, shouldering the burden of the primary engine efficiently. I didn't think 9.9HP was big enough and I was afraid that the 4 stroke would not have enough "push" for the 248 so I insisted on the 18hp 2-stroke.īecause my main engine, a Merc Optimax in oil injected, I had to carry a extra 5 gallon fuel tank with mixed fuel for the kicker.
